chocolate board noun

The rear boarding platform of a bus, specifically of the AEC Regent Three

Origin

From Mark’s childhood friend David H. The buses we rode to school between Horsley & Ashtead on London Country route 408 had an open rear platform surfaced in rubber in raised squares – for drainage – that resembled a bar of chocolate

Collector

Mark – 1960s
Mark Iliff – owner

Notes

The newfangled AEC Routemaster – too good for the 408 route, but glimpsed in passing at Leatherhead Bus Garage – had a similar arrangement, but less chocolatey
