definition

trifle, trifle come and get an eyeful song/verse fragment

Substitute chorus for the song Strawberry Fair

Origin

Possibly sparked when an altered version of the song, recorded by Anthony Newley, reached number 3 in the UK Singles Chart in 1960. Another possibility is the parody – Goosenadgers Fair by Kenneth Williams as Rambling Syd Rumpo – included in an episode of Round the Horne in 1968

Collector

Granny – 1960s
Marion Dixon (Howes) – mother of Mum, spouse of Pop

Notes

The song was collected in Broadstone, Devon in 1891 by H Fleetwood Sheppard. He thought the chorus went:
Ri-fol, Ri-fol, Tol-de-riddle-li-do,
Ri-fol, Ri-fol, Tol-de-riddle-dee.
