the gap towns noun

Dorking, Woking, Reigate, Redhill, Guildford…

Origin

At school in Rawalpindi Pa was expected to learn by rote the so-called Gap Towns, those that lie between the North and South Downs in southern England. He evidently succeeded because he was able to chant the list for the rest of his days

Collector

Noel King – father of Naomi

Notes

The list was triggered when he discovered I grew up near Guildford, and thereafter became a bit of a standing routine.
