definition

early to rise, early to bed, makes a man healthy, wealthy and dead expression or saying

Laudable counterproposition to the smug drivel with which larks try to top it the nob over owls

From The Light Fantastic, Terry Pratchett 1986

Notes

”Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise” was considered old in 1496 (in A Treatise of Fishing with an Angle, part of the Book of St Albans, written by Juliana Berners, a prioress). If you need more indicators than that that it belongs to a bygone age then you must be very picky indeed.
