barger noun

Bursar

Origin

Mark was involved in the audit of a school. The bursar really didn’t have a clue about bookkeeping and much of the post-audit memorandum comprised recommendations to him. But the audit senior’s handwriting was – er – striking, and when the first draft came out of the typing pool the recommendations were all addressed to ’the barger’. He has since found it hard to say the word correctly

Collector

Mark – late 1970s
Mark Iliff – owner
