Nigel H, big brother of one of Mark’s friends, served on RY Britannia. From time to time Navy officers were expected to pitch in with the royal family’s jollifications. That’s how he encountered this variation.
Zoom & screech is one of those “we used to make our own entertainment” games. 6-12 people sit in a circuit round the room. One person starts by saying “zoom”. The person to their left says the same, and so on round the room. However any player can instead say “screech”, in which case play reverses. Hilarity ensues
