If you have an infected bite or splinter, or a boil or carbuncle, put a plaster on and let it take its course
The standard advice of the family’s Scottish GP in Gold Coast/Ghana in such cases was “slap a plaister on it and let it cuik!”

Naomi’s family growing up
While Win fearlessly attacks any splinter, however deep, wherever on his body with his specially sharpened pin, or any handy knife, I won’t let him anywhere near me. Tho sometimes I pretend to want the intruder cut out, but always whip the finger/toe/whatever away at the last moment and happily apply a bandaid, dripping with drawing ointment, and wait for it to “cuik”.

Naomi recalls it as “Let it fester”.
